City players celebrate after a super win at Etihad stadium to clinch the EPL |
Manchester City won their first Premier League title in 44 years thanks to a dramatic 3-2 win over 10-man QPR at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Pablo Zabaleta gave the Citizens the lead but goals from Djibril Cisse and Jamie Mackie on either side of the sending off of Joey Barton put QPR ahead. Edin Dzeko then equalised in the 90th minute and Sergio Aguero netted a dramatic winner in the 94th minute.
City showed their intentions from the start as they controlled the game but despite their possession, they were struggling to get through the QPR defence.
Kenny did well to stop an effort from David Silva before Cisse tested Joe Hart with a free-kick.
The first goal would then arrive in the 39th minute when a limping Yaya Toure fed the ball through Zabaleta who saw his effort palmed up by the goalkeeper and it snuck over the line.
QPR would hit back after the break though when a mistake from Joleon Lescott found Cisse who smashed his shot home.
The match would then boil over when Barton was involved in an off-the-ball incident with Carlos Tevez and then went off in anger where he hit Sergio Aguero with a knee before attempting to headbutt Vincent Kompany.
Kenny would deny Samir Nasri with his legs in the 56th minute before pulling off an amazing double save two minutes later.
QPR would then take the lead in a rare counter-attack when Macki nodded in a pin-point cross from Traore.
The visitors were sitting back trying to defend their lead and it looked as if they would do just that as the game approached stoppage time but Edin Dzeko would not in their 18th corner in the 90th minute to restore their hope.
City were pouring forward and with just over a minute to go Aguero latched onto the ball in the area and smashed his shot home to spark a massive celebration. Soccer Laduma
